design

We are happy to work with your own designs, those of an architect/designer or with a couple of meetings we can design a piece for you.

The Design Process

First meeting – this is where we will measure up and discuss your ideas and requirements. You will be offered advice regarding size, structure, materials and budget so that you can have a clear understanding of everything involved. We can discuss any design preferences you have and look at what else is in the room in order to make the piece fit in or stand out – for example; in period properties it is often appropriate to highlight some architectural detailing and associate it with some detailing on the furniture (see Swirski Bathroom). Or you can simply choose a subject that you would like to see reflected in the piece (see Schultz Art Deco Cabinet).

These measurements and ideas will then be used to create a minimum of 3 technical drawings that will be brought to the second meeting for your consideration. Samples of timber and/or finishes will also be presented. The drawings will show detailing that can be interchanged in order to create a final design; this will be drawn up and sent to you for your approval. Occasionally a third meeting is required to ensure that we have covered every last detail. When you are satisfied there are 3 things to do before we start the build;

  1. Check and sign the drawings
  2. Read the Terms and Conditions
  3. Pay a 40% deposit as confirmation of the order

At this point you will receive a schedule and delivery date. The furniture will be delivered and fitted by us in order to guarantee a first class service to the end. You are welcome to drop in at the workshop in order to see the progress, however please be considerate of the fact that this is a working environment with industrial machinery.

We are committed to sustainability and choose our materials accordingly – all timber and panel products used are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification ( PEFC). We use traditional finishing products such as oil and wax, if the desired finish is paint or lacquer then we will use the best quality water based product unless the client specifically asks for something else.
